The lady Eagles traveled to Trinity Lutheran to take on the host school in the second round of sectional action. The Lady Eagles lost in three sets (25-5,25-10,28-8) to end the season at 10-15.
If you are going to get beat at the end of the season then getting beat by the #1 team in 1A is the way to go. Although the scores of the sets don’t necessarily show it I felt as though our girls played pretty well. They didn’t let down and they were not intimidated. I am incredibly proud of how this season has gone. We had a few games where we couldn’t put it all together but for the most part, we competed with nearly every team we took the court with. We will miss our Seniors, Shaylee Volz & McKenzy Gray as they were all around players for us this season. Both their athletic play and leadership skills will leave a void. I want to thank them for their dedication to the program over the last 6 years! In addition, we will also miss our exchange student Marie Gohr who gave us solid time in the front row and from the service line. It has been incredible to see a group of kids bond with a student from another country so quickly!
Overall this season has continued to show improvement from the previous two. We improved in every single area that we take the stats on. For example, during the 2018 season, we only won 7 sets all season, 2019 was 20 set wins this season was 40. Our overall record improved from 2-23 in both 2018 & 2019 to 10-15 in 2020. In 2019 we recorded 154 services aces, in 2020 242. Serve receive passing percentage went from 83.2% in 2019 to 87.2% this season. 2019 reported 431 kills this season was 608. With this was an increase in kill assists from 384 last season to 578 this. These are just a few areas in which our growth becomes very apparent.
All of these statistical improvements are black and white but we have also become mentally tougher and smarter about the game overall. We were able to fight back in sets where we got behind early and we were able to finish sets and not let teams back in. This group of young women had a phenomenal work ethic and pushed either other to be better and do better every single day since last season.
I appreciate these kids and I look forward to when we are all back in the gym again. #IGY6
